Jastrząb Żeliszew 3:2 Sęp – Last-minute penalty seals defeat

In today's Matchday 10 fixture of the Siedlce Regional League, we suffered a 3:2 away defeat to Jastrząb Żeliszew. Despite a poor first half, we managed to overcome a one-goal deficit after the break and take the lead thanks to two goals from Mikołaj Głodek. However, the hosts managed to equalise before converting a penalty in the very last action of the match to secure all three points.
We went into the match in Żeliszew with several squad problems, which clearly affected our performance. The poor condition of the pitch made things even more difficult, resulting in a very chaotic game from the opening minutes. Both teams focused mainly on winning aerial balls, while attempts to put together more organised attacking moves often proved unsuccessful.
We conceded an early goal and struggled to find a way to deal with the hosts' style of play for most of the first half. Jastrząb tried to press us, making it difficult for us to retain possession and move forward into attack. We created only one real goalscoring opportunity during this period, but Sebastian Wdowiak failed to convert it. We went into the break trailing 1:0.
Our performance improved in the second half. We started spending more time near the hosts' goal and creating dangerous situations inside their penalty area. During one of these attacks, Mikołaj Głodek was fouled, and the referee awarded a penalty to our team. Mikołaj himself stepped up and successfully converted from the spot to make it 1:1.
The equaliser gave us confidence, and we continued to push forward in the following minutes. After a throw-in, the ball reached Dawid Kowalczyk, who fired a shot towards the Jastrząb goal. The home goalkeeper managed to save the effort but parried the ball straight into the path of Mikołaj Głodek. Our striker took advantage of the opportunity and scored his second goal of the match, putting us 2:1 ahead.
Unfortunately, after scoring our second goal, we dropped too deep into defence and handed the initiative back to the hosts. Jastrząb began getting into dangerous positions around our penalty area more frequently and eventually found the equaliser. Following a cross to the far post, one of the home players was left insufficiently marked and finished the move to make it 2:2.
The closing minutes once again featured plenty of chaotic play, battles for every ball and attempts by both teams to create goalscoring opportunities. Just when it seemed the match would end with the points shared, the hosts played a ball in behind our centre-backs in the final action of the game. One of the Jastrząb players attempted to control it inside the penalty area but was fouled by Paweł Mazurek. The referee pointed to the penalty spot. The hosts converted the penalty, and shortly afterwards, the referee blew the final whistle.
Ultimately, we lost 3:2 in Żeliszew, despite managing to turn the match around and take the lead in the second half. It is particularly disappointing to have lost points in the very last moments of the game, but also to have performed so poorly in the first half, when we failed to adapt to the difficult conditions and our opponents' style of play. Unfortunately, our good run of three consecutive league victories has come to an end.
