Oliwier Deres played in the final of the Mazovia U9 District Teams Tournament!

The tournament was the final stage of the first edition of a project organised by the Mazovian Football Association for boys and girls born in 2017. Teams representing 30 districts took part in the earlier stages of the competition, with the top 16 qualifying for the finals in Warsaw. In total, 224 young players took part in the event at the Hutnik facilities.

The Garwolin district team made a very strong start to the tournament. In the group stage, they defeated Mińsk district 3:1 and Wyszków district 3:0, with their only defeat coming against the eventual winners, Warsaw West district, by a score of 0:1. Six points were enough to secure second place in the group and a place among the tournament’s top eight teams.

In the quarter-final, the Garwolin district side lost 1:4 to Ostrołęka district, who later went on to reach the final. In the subsequent play-offs for places 5–8, our district representatives recorded an emphatic 5:0 win over Sochaczew district before losing 2:4 to Ostrów district in the match for fifth place. As a result, the Garwolin district team finished the tournament in a very respectable 6th place.

We are all the more pleased that Oliwier Deres, a Sęp Żelechów player and one of the standout members of our 2017 age group, was part of this team. A few weeks earlier, Oliwier and Filip Jurzysta had taken part in district team trials in Garwolin, and Oliwier was subsequently given the opportunity to represent the district in the final tournament in Warsaw.

Congratulations to Oliwier on his appearance and on taking another important step in his football development! We would also like to thank his parents, coaches and Oliwier himself for their commitment, consistent hard work and determination. We wish him many more call-ups, valuable sporting experiences and continued development!

An additional reward for the tournament participants will be the opportunity to attend Poland’s match against Romania at the National Stadium on 2 October. The Polish Football Association has invited all finalists to the match together with one parent each.
